Root Canal Treatment
Sensitivity to cold or hot while drinking or eating is caused by the presence of one or several nerves inside each tooth (the pulp).
When a big cavity or decay reaches the nerve, it’s imperative to remove and clean the root, otherwise it will get infected and might cause major pain and swelling.
During root canal or endodontic treatment, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha. Afterwards, the tooth is restored with a crown or filling for protection.
